TWELFTH BUD AT THE GLEN HIGHLIGHTS SIX WEEKEND 1997 WATKINS GLEN SCHEDULE

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- While the checkered flag only recently ended the 1996 racing season at Watkins Glen International, the circuit is already gearing up for a busy 1997 campaign. Watkins Glen International will host six racing weekends in 1997, highlighted by the 12th annual running of the Bud at the Glen NASCAR Winston Cup weekend, August 7-10. The season opens with the First Union Six Hours of the Glen, set for June 7-8, featuring major sports car racing at a traditional distance. The NASCAR Busch Grand National Series returns June 28-29 for the Lysol 200, when selected Winston Cup stars battle it out with the BGN competitors. The continuation of an unbroken 50-year tradition -- road racing's longest -- resumes July 12-13 with the SCCA Glen U.S. Nationals. The Bud at the Glen weekend will return August 7-10, with Geoff Bodine returning to defend his title in the NASCAR Winston Cup event. Saturday's schedule will include the running of the Burnham Boilers 150 for NASCAR's Busch North Series. NASCAR's popular Craftsman Truck Series will return in the second annual Parts America 150, August 23-24. Wrapping up the season will be the Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, Sept. 5-7, featuring a full contingent of Sportscar Vintage Racing Association races, the antique automobile exhibition, and Friday's downtown Grand Prix Festival. Additional support races and value-added family activities for each event will be announced in the near future. Tickets and holiday gift certificates for all Watkins Glen International events are on sale now. Bud at the Glen reserved grandstand ticket renewals will be mailed shortly.
