Vodacom Festival Of Speed Endurance Race Bonanza At AA Kyalami

A "local is lekker" endurance race bonanza - rekindling long distance events of a bygone era - will take place at AA Kyalami on November 24.

Two endurance events - for cars and motorcycles - on one day add up to a feast of entertainment for motor racing enthusiasts. Topping the bill will be the Vodacom two hour Enduro for Wesbank V8, Vodacom Sports Prototype, Midas Production Car Class A, B and C and Grand Touring Cars. The Grand Touring car category is open to Porsche, Ferrari and other exotic models.

The Vodacom Two Hour Enduro will be run on a class basis and will include an index of performance category. Each entry must also have a minimum of two drivers, and will include a compulsory pit stop.

The motorcycle event will be a one hour endurance race for Superbikes, Super Stock motorcycles and road going Superbikes with an engine capacity in excess of 600 cm3. There will be two riders per machine, and a compulsory pit stop for a rear tyre change.

"Following the postponement of the international event, we had to come up with a suitable replacement," said AA Racing managing director, Piet Swanepoel. "We think we have come up with a positive answer, and have had a tremendous response from Motorsport South Africa and the various associations.

"The concept of a race day given over to endurance events that embrace a wide spectrum of machinery, should prove to be popular with competitors and motorsport enthusiasts."

Swanepoel added that the Vodacom Two Hour Enduro could be the forerunner of more endurance events at AA Kyalami in future. The programme will also provide a platform for the cream of South African drivers and riders to display their talents.

"The scope of the two events allows for some interesting driver/rider combinations," Swanepoel said. "AA Racing has always tried to make the final meeting of the year at AA Kyalami something special, and the 'local is lekker' flavour has all the ingredients to be a major success."

The Vodacom Festival of Speed race day will also include other attractions. Details of these events are still being finalised, and will shortly be released.
