Team Brock driver Benn 'The Burner' Wilson is still a newcomer to the popular V8BRute category, but handling the racing like a pioneer. Not only being a newcomer to the category, the Gold Coast resident will be making his debut at Winton Raceway this Friday, 18th June.
Winton Raceway, 10kms from Benalla is regarded as fearful for drivers with the 3km clockwise track being tight with twisting corners and long fast straights.
"I haven't race at Winton before, but looking forward to it as the tight and twisty layout is my speciality." Wilson said. Currently sitting in 5th position, Wilson knows that a win is needed to be able to move up the 'food chain'.
"I have very positive expectations going into this round. I will look at continuing our consistent run from Sandown and try to get a race win under my belt," Wilson said.
"If both of those can happen, a round win is on the cards. Failing that, a podium result will suffice." The V8BRute round at Winton represents the midway point of the season where points are crucial for the drivers, including Wilson.
"It's coming to the crunch part of the season and I have to keep my eyes on the four drivers in front of me," Wilson said.
"My team mate Damien White will be looking to keep his consistent run going at Winton, which is where he won last year. If I can get practice times to rival his, I'll be happy.
"Sandown was the first round all year where I didn't get a DNF in any of the races. Those results showed that if I stay consistent, continue to finish the races, I will be a good chance of a podium result.
"The good result at Sandown also put me 5th in the official standings and I hope to keep that level of improvement going." Preparation of the Holden V8BRute has been minimal following the Sandown round with just a general maintenance check completed by the Team Brock's race mechanics, but the team has still been frantic in time for the round.
"It's been a hectic couple of weeks preparation for me before heading to Winton. My brother Cam and I have 8 cars that are racing on the same weekend as the Brutes in the Queensland Gemini Series as well as the Queensland HQ Series"
