THE last two contenders for the 2001 Poolrite V8 BRute Muster will settle the inaugural championship in a shootout from the front row of the grid in the season's final race at Sandown International Motor Raceway in Melbourne tomorrow.
After two races today, Rod 'Redline' Wilson, in a Holden Commodore ute, and Damien 'Ice' White, in a Ford Falcon, are separated by only 12 points and will start second and first in the final six-lap sprint.
In races won respectively by Commodore drivers Gary 'Growler' Young and Charlie 'Handlebars' Kovacs, Wilson scored two fourth places and White two second places.
"That's a fantastic situation for the last race of the year - first and second in the championship, Holden versus Falcon, in a straight race from the front row and the winner takes all," Wilson said.
"The utes have had a great reception from the fans here this weekend and [Bthey'll get their money's worth tomorrow. Everything my team has learned about racing the Commodore this year has come to fruition at Sandown and tomorrow I'll be driving that car like I've stolen it.
"It would be a great honour to win the very first V8 ute racing championship."
The pointscore, but not the leaders' order, may be affected by the outcome of a stewards' charge resulting from the second race. Kovacs, Darren McDonald (Commodore) and Noel Edge (Commodore) were charged over irregularities in the location of weight ballast in their cars.
