Penalties given to nine drivers have overturned the results of first Poolrite V8 BRutes Series race run at the Gold Coast Indy yesterday.

Race winner Grant Denyer (Ford Falcon XR8 ute) was among seven who received 30 second penalties for short-cutting chicanes (temporary corners) on the Surfers Paradise street circuit.

The stewards' decision elevated third finisher Damien White (Ford) to winner and relegated Denyer to seventh.

Series leader Warren Luff (Ford) and nearest challenger Gary MacDonald (Holden SS) were others to benefit, finding themselves lifted from 10 th to fifth and from fifth to second respectively.

The amended results set an exciting scenario for this afternoon's second of three final-round races.

MacDonald will start from pole position and still with a chance of winning the series -- and the man beside him on the front grid row will be Luff.

RESULTS (Race 1, Round 8-amended)
1. Damien White (NSW) Ford Falcon XR8
2. Gary MacDonald (NSW) Holden SS
3. Kim Jane (Vic.) Holden
4. Charlie Kovacs (SA) Holden
5. Warren Luff (NSW) Ford
6. James Brock (Vic.) Holden
