STOPTECH teams up with Sheehan Motor Racing to out-brake the competition.
Martinez, CA: The one thing more important than going fast on the racetrack is the ability to slow down even faster. That is why a STOPTECH high performance brake system is on the Sheehan Motor Racing Subaru WRX U.S. Touring Car Championship (USTCC) racer.
STOPTECH is a relatively new manufacturer in the aftermarket performance brake industry and brings fresh thinking to solve age-old braking issues. STOPTECH produces brake kits that are fine-tuned to the application they are to be used for. The calipers in their kits use piston sizes that are engineered to work properly with the OEM proportioning valve and rear brakes, keeping brake balance, pedal travel and ABS functionality intact while dramatically improving heat dissipation and pad life.
Sheehan Motor Racing will be using STOPTECH's patented ST-40 four piston calipers with its unique bolt-in-bridge design, which provides unparalleled caliper rigidity, virtually eliminating distortion. This groundbreaking caliper will be clamping down on STOPTECH's huge 328mm x 28mm 48-vane two-piece vented AeroRotors". This potent combination is race bred and race capable while having additional features that make them as street friendly as an OEM braking system. This is, in fact, the same set-up that STOPTECH sells as their big brake upgrade kit for the 2002 Subaru WRX.
"I am very excited to have STOPTECH brakes on our racecar," said team driver Gary Sheehan. "The level of effort that STOPTECH puts into the design, construction and testing of their brake systems is second to none. That's a comforting thought when I'm standing on the brakes at 135 mph!"
STOPTECH brakes will be put to the grueling test of touring car racing starting with the first USTCC event at Sears Point in Sonoma, CA on March 16th, 2002. The series continues for six additional races at tracks across the country, many known to be especially cruel on brakes.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for STOPTECH to show how well our products perform in the punishing world of road racing," said Bob Lee, General Manager of STOPTECH. "Our custom designed kits can stand up to this kind of abuse on the track while being completely at home on the street."
STOPTECH LLC was founded in March of 1999 as a brake technology company. The founding partners came from backgrounds in racing, engineering and manufacturing, including racecar design and fabrication, brake component manufacturing and performance aftermarket distribution. STOPTECH has filed four patents in basic brake technology, which are utilized in the products they manufacture. They design and manufacture their own race quality AeroRotors" and calipers, as well as all their other big brake kit components. Located in Torrance, California, STOPTECH is positioned to continue developing and delivering the most technically advanced brake products available for racing and the performance aftermarket. Their rotors are made at ISO-9001 and QS9000 registered facilities.
