In Mar de Ajo (Buenos Aires) started a new season of the Turismo Carretera.
In a very difficult moment for Argentina, the categorie took the risk and gave a real party for the 20000 persons presents.
Early in the morning started the first serie won by Diego Aventín (Ford) followed by Ledesma (Chevrolet) and Fernando Iglesias (Ford).
The second serie was dominated by the two brothers Jose Luis Di Palma (Chevrolet) and Marcos Di Palma (Chevrolet) first and second respectively.
The third serie was won by the champion Guillermo Ortelli (Chevrolet), second Henry Martin (Ford) and third Rafael Verna (Ford).
About the race. Diego Aventín obtain his second victory in T.C. with just 21 years. With an excellent car he just had to make a difference in the first laps and then drive tranquil and don`t make a mistake.
Jose Luis Di Palma, who started second, had problems with the engine. His brother Marcos, after a bad start, passed five cars! He was second when a mistake put him back again. The fight between Ledesma, Ortelli, Martin and Iglesias was the most amusing of the race. Iglesias finished second, followed by Ledesma and Ortelli.
Two drivers had return in this series: Walter Hernandez (1993 champion) and Juan Manuel Silva both with Ford. Walter Hernandez was running fifth when a friction with Ernesto Bessone (Dodge) retard him until 12 position.
Silva (champion of T.C. 2000 in 1999) made a very good race. He started 11 and finish in 6th. position.
There were a lot of drivers making their debut in this race.
Esteban Tuero. The ex-driver of Minardi in Formula1 had a very difficult weekend . He started 29th. and he abandon with a lot of problems in his Ford.
Emiliano Spataro (Chevrolet) qualified in 8th. but a touch with Fabian Acuña (Ford) in the serie put him back for the final race.
Another rookie in this series, Daniel Cingolani (Dodge) champion of T.C. 2000 in 2000, neither could obtain a good result. He start the race 28th. and finish 16th. with problems of a lot of hit inside the car. This provoke him a faint after the race. He was the best debutante.
Thereby was the first round of the Turismo Carretera. 47 cars presents is very positive in a moment of crisis in Argentina. In spite of this very good race, there is a lot of uncertainty for the second race in March 17 in Balcarce (Buenos Aires)
