10. #509 Renault: Martin van den Brink, Peter Willemsen, Richard Mouw burning Truck
The dangers of the Dakar are still very real. The crew was fortunate to walk away but the truck didn't fare so well.
9. #7 Yamaha: Helder Rodrigues
Before the Dakar convoy gets to the famous dunes, they have to cross dozens of rivers along the route from the starting point in Buenos Aires. Easier said than done.
8. Sébastien Loeb, Peugeot Sport
Sure, it's not even the first full week of the Dakar, but this guy is certainly showing why he's a rally legend. On any surface, in any condition, and any car.
7. Muddy racing shoes
Think of the Dakar like 300km of full-stop rallying during the day, then camping overnight, followed by another 300km, and more camping. You're never fully dry, and you're never really comfortable either.
6. #300 Mini: Nasser Al-Attiyah and Matthieu Baumel
The Minis are fast, but the Peugeots have something extra this year.
5. #508 Kamaz: Dmitry Sotnikov, Igor Devyatkin, Ruslan Akhmadeev
Care for some rosemary with that Kamaz?
4. #26 Honda: Jean de Azevedo
More river crossing. The Dakar is as much about the beautiful countryside as it is the competitors.
3. #19 Honda: Michael Metge
Very brave of the photographer to get this close. Great angle, but so much could go wrong (think rider's elbow hits camera, rider goes down, photographer causes a competitor to lose....)
2. #321 Peugeot: Cyril Despres, David Castera
Spectacular imagery from the Red Bull and Peugeot photographers this year. Fast shutter speed to suspend those muddy water droplets in the air like defying the laws of physics.
