August 10 - Dominic Distarce promotes the first professional midget race at Loyola Stadium in Los Angeles, California (1933).

August 11 - Jackie Oliver wins the last Can-Am held at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Last Can-Am win for Oliver and the UOP Shadow team (1974).

- J.D. McDuffie dies in crash during Winston Cup race at Watkins Glen, New York (1992).

August 12 - Parnelli Jones born (1933).

- Manfred Winkelhock killed in crash of sportscar at Mosport, Canada (1985).

August 13 - Dan Marvin born (1949).

- Tim Richmond dies of complications from AIDS (1989).

August 14 - Rob Walker born (1917).
