the editors' choice

Only our opinion

Allan McNish's huge crash was an obvious choice editorially speaking. Although there are plenty of artistic and pretty images from 2011, the editors felt this high impact (pun intented) photo was simply spectacular. Right place, right time sort of thing. At the time of the accident, everyone feared the worst and the fact Allan was able to walk away is a testament to the R18's construction and safety measures implemented in the sport. And more incredibly, the fact photographers, corner workers and fans were spared by a freak twist of physics, keeping the car from flying over the barrier, is simply a miracle. The voting was by no means unanimous, with our own Eric Gilbert's image of Sebastian Wheldon kissing the yard of bricks (this year's readers' choice) coming in at a close second place. In case you haven't noticed, we here at Motorsport.com love imagery, whatever the series. And it has once again been a pleasure looking through the tens of thousands of images this year. On to 2012!
