STRONG RESULTS IN JULY FOR PALMER IN US MAZDA SERIES

Darren Palmer continues to impress with strong results during July at major US road racing venues in the STAR Formula Mazda Series.

At the former home of the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, Palmer finished third in early July which regained him the points lead ahead of reigning champion, Bob Kaminskey.

The Watkins Glen points result guarantees Palmer a two day test aboard an Indy Lights car during October.

Meanwhile, an Formula Toyota Atlantic test is also on the cards for the young Australian racer as he continues to adapt impressively to open wheeler racing in the U.S.

Mixed results followed in successive rounds but Palmer fought back at Mid Ohio to finish second behind Marty Hahnfeld.

Strong results also came Palmer’s way at Mid Ohio when he again finished second

After starting on the front row, Palmer dropped one position after getting a poor start.

"I did not get the best of starts as my car had a very tall first gear in it. The front straight is highly inclined and I lost one car position by the end of the main straight," Palmer said.

"I held second position in the twenty car field all the way to flag with a four second gap between myself and third place Bob Kaminsky.

"This is my best finihing position for a couple of weeks and the point standings are looking very good."

Kaminsky now leads the series on 204, ahead of Palmer 202 and Hahnfeld 179.
