SRO Statement on Death of Martin Bartek (1967-2011)
SRO Motorsports Group was saddened to hear of the death of Martin Bartek, team principal of Matech Racing and Matech Competition, a long-time colleague and supporter of the FIA GT3 European Championship and the FIA GT1 World Championship.
Martin Bartek developed and entered the Ford GT3 in the FIA GT3 European Championship, claiming the GT3 Team Champion title in 2008. He then developed the first new-generation GT1 car, the Ford GT Matech, thus being instrumental in the creation of the new World Championship for 2010.
We have lost a friend.
His team claimed the first-ever Championship win in Abu Dhabi in 2010, and continued to perform strongly, driver Thomas Mutsch finishing as vice-Champion in the FIA GT1 World Championship. For 2011, the four Ford GT Matech cars he developed are entered by Marc VDS Racing Team and Belgian Racing. Martin Bartek also represented the GT1 teams on the GT Commission at the FIA.
Stephane Ratel, CEO and founder of SRO Motorsports Group, commented: "Martin played a major role in the FIA GT3 European and GT1 World Championships. We have lost a friend." Everyone at SRO Motorsports Group would like to extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends at this difficult time.
