April 20th, St. Augustine, FL -- The Southern Pro Trucks, the high-powered Florida-based regional truck touring series, are set for their first visit to Florida Speed Park of the 2000 season this weekend.

Leading the Pro Truck field is Scott Bramlett, driver of the #12 and the current points leader after three races. Bramlett, who posted a top five finish in last September's event at the fast paved half mile speedway and has already scored two wins this season, is looking to improve upon his early season success in the series.

"I'm looking to get a solid finish," says Bramlett. "The series is getting more and more competitive."

Joining Bramlett is rookie Steve Griffin, who is off to a hot start in the series with three consecutive fifth place finishes to begin the season, placing him fourth in points.

Expected to add to the visiting field are several local Florida Speed Park Thunder Truck drivers, including Toby Sims, Wade Lynn and Robert Gorman, Jr. Lynn's truck suffered extensive damage in an accident last week and the team is working hard to get it ready for this weekend.

The Sportsman are back in action this weekend as Todd Ponce will attempt to capture his third consecutive win in the division. Ponce set the crowd on their feet last week with a hard fought charge from the eighth position to claim the victory. Shaw Hallman, Jason Garver and Kenny Hall stand in his way.

The Tattoo Dee's Old Rooster Mini Stocks return to action after a one-week layoff. Jody Miller looks to make it two in a row over defending champion Kevin Burkett and current points leader Jay Farris. Vern Rozier and Jake Hartley offer viable competition as well.

In Late Model action, Larry Osteen will look to recover from mechanical problems and try and hold off Tim Laurent and Jeremy Fitch, who have begun the season with impressive showings.

Jimmy Britts will be absent this weekend in Rick's Muffler Modified action as he races in the NASCAR Goody's Dash event in North Carolina, which will end his win streak and cancel his bounty. Britts' absence opens the door for Robert Deal, Chuck Cumby and Marc Kinley, who have all had impressive runs during the season but have fallen just short at the finish line.

The Thunder Trucks and Alpha Communications Hobby Stocks have the night off.

The first 100 children in attendance Saturday will receive a free die-cast Southern Pro replica truck.

Florida Speed Park is located at 900 Big Oak Road, three miles north of St. Augustine, off of Highway US 1 across from the St. Augustine Airport. Racing begins at 6:45pm, with features starting at 8:00pm. Tickets are $10 General Admission, $8 Students & Seniors, $2 Ages 7-12 and Under 7 free.
