Patrick Huisman's Fourth Victory - Bernd Maylander Up to Third Overall

Reigning champion Patrick Huisman from the Netherlands gave yet another fine display of driving prowess, taking a green light to chequered flag victory at the eighth round of the Porsche Pirelli SuperCup on Hocken- heim's 6.8 kilometre high-speed circuit. Securing his fourth win of the season increases the triple champion's series lead over Stephane Ortelli (MC) by eleven points. Formula 1 safety car driver and SuperCup regular Bernd Maylander finished the 12 lap sprint second, moving up to third overall in the points.

Patrick Huisman (NL, winner): "In Hockenheim I have predetermined race pattern. In 1996 I won, 1997 was a disaster. 1998 I won, 1999 disaster. Victory was due for Hockenheim 2000. My team replaced the clutch and my start was fantastic. I pulled away from the rest and had the first corner more or less to myself. From there I just had to bring the car home."

Bernd Maylander (D, second): "I had too much wheel spin and my start was not great, so Patrick got away on me. But I'm not too unhappy with my result. I'm now third overall."

Stephane Ortelli (MC, fourth): "Jorg Bergmeister was losing water in front of me, so it was like driving on ice. I didn't want to risk any- thing trying to pass him, so I held my position. But Jorg is a real gentleman. Two laps from the finish he didn't stop me from overtaking."

Mark Warnecke (D, VIP driver and German swimming representative at the 2000 Olympic Games, 22nd): "Now I'm more familiar with the ABS brakes and I'm getting used to this 911. I had understeer in the Nordkurve but I didn't want to try and correct it by accelerating and then risk spinning out in front of 100,000 spectators. All in all a fantastic weekend."
