Second win for the Ford Focus with Ponce de Leon at Resistencia

Resistencia, Argentina, August 31.- It was a clear win for Gabriel Ponce de Leon and the works Ford team at Resistencia, Chaco, where the ninth round of the TC 2000 series took place.

Ponce led from start to finish and for most of the race he was able to control the attack of Fabian Yannantuoni. The young Yannantuoni had done a perfect start from third in his private Honda Civic and he kept a good pace until he made the leader swept for a while.

Behind them, Omar Martinez (Toyota Corolla), Esteban Tuero (Volkswagen Polo), Christian Ledesma (Chevrolet Astra) and Gabriel Furlan (Mitsubishi Lancer) were entertained in a good fight. Local ace Juan Manuel Silva was running fifth when he delayed with engine problems.

At a certain moment, the top three drivers had a small gap of 2 seconds among them, but Tuero did not make it to stay there and the last podium place was being pushed quite hard by Marcelo Bugliotti and Norberto Fontana. Right in the last corner, the Toyota overtook the Astra with more speed and an spectacular move that, however, the stewards judged unfair, so the current champion was given a 30s penalty to lose that place in the event and fall down to eighth.

Fourth went to Martin Basso, followed by Guillermo Ortelli, Nelson Garcia and a hard charging Marcos Di Palma, seventh from 22nd in the grid. Fontana, Oscar Fineschi and Mariano Bainotti completed the ten best-placed drivers.

This victory for Gabriel Ponce de Leon meant he is now leading the championship with 76 points, just one more than Norberto Fontana. Silva is third with 68. The next race marks the beginning of spring time at San Rafael (Mendoza), 21st September.
