The fifth round of the Argentinian Touring Car Championship (TC 2000) had place today in the racetrack "Sudamericano de Olavarría" with victory for Gabriel Ponce de León, who catched the lead in the standings. His teammate in the factory Ford team, Diego Aventín, and Juan M. Silva, with Honda, completed the podium.

In a cloudy journey, minutes before the start of the competition had place a tribute to Nicolás Vuyovich, driver of the works Toyota team, Gustavo Ramonda, team director of Toyota, his son David Ramonda and Hugo Pérez, all them died in a airplane accident three weekes ago when they were coming back from the San Juan round, in which Vuyovich achieved the victory.

In the track the Ford Focus claimed the second 1-2 of the season after the one took in Viedma, third round. Silva put the Honda Civic in the front since the green lights, but the constant attack of the Ford guys made impossible Silva to keep his position.

Finally on lap 17th, five before the chequered flag, Ponce de León passed Silva and Aventín did the same a moment after.

The last sprint had Ponce and Aventín with a fastest lap after another building a difference with the rest.

Nelson García came up on fourth position with the Focus of the "B" Berta Motorsport team in his best result of the season. Matías Rossi, winner this year in Paraná, put his Astra in fifth place as the best of the factory Chevrolet team.

Emiliano Spataro reached his target of being in the top sixth positions with the private Volkswagen Bora, while Guillermo Ortelli managed to take seventh in the Peugeot 307.

The Honda factory team couldn't claim the victory once again this season. As in the others four races, there was a Civic fighting for the first place but it was unable to take it in the end. Silva suffered problems in the steering while Martín Basso finished only 9th after a mistake in the start of the race. The third car of the team in hands of Fabián Yannantuoni retired on lap four.

Norberto Fontana had a frustrating result with the Toyota Corolla by retiring in the first lap when was on top five places.

The 2001 and 2003 champion took his 13th victory in the series and the second of the year. Ponce jumped to the highest in the championship with 53 points near followed by Basso, 48; Spataro, 45; Aventín, 43 and Rossi, 40.

The TC 2000 action will continue on June 26th at Córdoba province for the sixth round of the championship.
