Speedway officials announced today that Penske Speedway, Inc. has acquired a minority interest in the 1.017-mile superspeedway located in Rockingham, N.C. Penske Speedway, Inc. operates Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI; Nazareth Speedway in Nazareth, PA; and is currently constructing the California Speedway in San Bernardino County, California. Penske Speedway, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Penske Corporation, a privately held transportation services company. Jo DeWitt Wilson, President and CEO of N.C. Motor Speedway, said, "We are very excited about our new association with Penske Speedway, Inc. They have an outstanding reputation in both the corporate and motorsports arena, and we look forward to utilizing their knowledge and experience as we continue to grow." In addition, Walter P. Czarnecki, President of Penske Speedway, Inc., has been elected to N.C. Motor Speedway's Board of Directors. Czarnecki said, "North Carolina Motor Speedway has been an important part of NASCAR racing for more than 30 years. We are pleased with the opportunity to assist current management with its plans for future development and expansion. With this investment we are committed to working with them in continuing the track's rich heritage and tradition."
