Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, Sept. 23 Californian Patrick Long pulled off perhaps the most impressive driving feat of his young career on last Saturday when he won Round 5 of the Benelux EuroTour for Formula Fords at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Despite starting 11th on the grid, Long moved through the field in treacherous conditions, winning the rain-soaked race with a dramatic last-lap pass of Denmark's Ronnie Bremer.

Long was also impressive in Sunday's EuroTour race at Spa, finishing third, after starting the race on the fifth row in 9th.

"Winning at Spa in the rain was incredible," said Long, who began his racing career driving karts in Southern California, where races were routinely cancelled at the mere threat of precipitation. "Spa is probably the most famous circuit in the world, and standing on the top step of the podium will be something I'll never forget. It gives me great confidence going into the final round of the British Formula Ford series."

Currently, Long is a second in the Slick 50 British Formula Ford Championship; he trails Sweden's Robert Dahlgren by a scant two points, 256 to 254. The championship will be decided this Sunday, September 30, at Silverstone.
