Mike Rockenfeller: Youngest Driver in the Field Wins

Mike Rockenfeller from Germany won the fifth round of the Porsche Michelin Supercup at the European Grand Prix on the NC

Supercup regular Frank Stippler (Germany) claimed third behind the UPS duo, however the 28-year-old had to defend his position from Wolf Henzler's (Germany) unrelenting attack. Pierre Kaffer crossed the finish line fifth.

In the drivers' championship, Wolf Henzler extended his lead by two points over second-placed Pierre Kaffer to now head the standings by four points. Frank Stippler swapped places with Austria's Walter Lechner jr. for third after Lechner made a mistake in the opening phase of the race and finished eleventh.

Barry Horne from Edinburgh put in a spirited drive at his guest appearance which saw him make up several positions from his 15th starting place only to fall back to finish 14th when his Porsche spun on coolant from Ellen Lohr's 911. Due to the liquid on the track, the safety car was sent out for laps 9 and 10.

The next round of the Porsche Michelin Supercup takes place next weekend at the French Grand Prix in Magny Cours.

Mike Rockenfeller (winner): "At last a win. What a huge relief! After I had won the sprint to the first corner I controlled the race from the lead."

Patrick Long (second). "That was a great achievement for our team. Here it was not about points but for a good Porsche and UPS show. Moreover, I'm more than happy with the prize money."

Frank Stippler (third): "Third place gives me maximum points, so why would I want to risk anything. I just had to keep an eye on Wolf in the mirror, but I didn't expect a kamikaze manoeuvre from him. My left rear wheel-bearing gave me some trouble, which made the car somewhat unstable in right hand corners."
