CENTENNIAL, Colo. (September 12, 2002) - SCCA Pro Racing and the World Karting Association (WKA) announced today the creation of the Constructors Trophy for chassis, tire and engine manufacturers.

The Constructors Trophy awards points to the highest finishing representative of each chassis, tire and engine manufacturer in any of the six Constructors Championship classes not requiring a spec manufacturer. The points leader in each of the three categories at season's end will be awarded the Constructors Trophy, signifying their achievement as the highest finishing manufacturer in the SCCA Pro Racing/WKA Constructors Championship.

The program is open to SCCA Pro Racing/WKA corporate partners, manufacturers who have elected to participate in contingency award programs.

"The Constructors Trophy adds another element of excitement to our series," said Mitch Wright, SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manager. "It's a great way to showcase our partners as well as attract other manufacturers interested in this championship."

The current leaders in the Constructors Trophy standings, following Round One at Road America's Briggs & Stratton Motorplex, are Birel chassis, Vortec engines and Bridgestone tires.

The Constructors Championship travels to the Norway Motorsports Complex in Sheridan, Ill. this weekend for Round Two of the four-round championship, with Craig Baltzer, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Steve Welk, of Franklin, Wis., leading the ICC and ICA point standings.
