Second Win for Wolf Henzler, Stephane Ortelli Secures Second at Comeback
With his second win of the season at the sixth round of the Porsche Michelin Supercup at Magny-Cours, Wolf Henzler (Germany) extends his lead to ten points over second-placed Pierre Kaffer. The 28-year-old outpaced Stephane Ortelli (Monaco) in the sprint to the first corner and held on to the lead over the 16 laps to the finish.
Reigning champion Ortelli saw the chequered flag 1.3 seconds behind the winner. With this result the Monegasque returns to defend his title in the Supercup. On the eve of the race, Ortelli and team boss Walter Lechner came to an agreement that Ortelli will compete in the seven remaining races this season.
Behind Ortelli, Huisman crossed the finish line third. The Dutchman put Ortelli under intense pressure over the last three laps with the duo eventually losing contact to Henzler.
Finishing fourth, Pierre Kaffer still holds on to his second place in the drivers' points in front of his team mate Frank Stippler.
VIP driver Romain Dumas (France) retired in the second lap after he hit a competitor and lost coolant. His VIP colleague Sebastien Dumez finished eighth coming from tenth on the grid.
Wolf Henzler (winner): "My perfect start was decisive and I was able to stay ahead of everybody through the first two corners. I was a bit concerned about my brakes but luckily everything went well."
Stephane Ortelli (second): "It's good to be back. Now my calendar is really full with the FIA GT Championship and the Porsche Supercup. My gearbox played up from the ninth lap on and the brakes weren't perfect, but this result is a huge motivation for me and the team." <pre> Race result: 1.
