The First Podium in The Renault Clio Inernational Challenge For Luca Casadei
The first two rounds of the Renault Clio International Challenge took place on the Belgian track of Spa this weekend. The mini European Championship has another 2 rounds in Monza (on June 26 / 27) and in Hockenheim (on October 9/10).
During Race 1, Luca Casadei conquered his first podium of the season. The driver from Forli, Italy crossed the finish line in third place behind Sebasti Scalera e Romagnoli.
Luca Casadei wasn't so lucky in Race 2.After being sent off track, Luca wasn't able to get beyond the 9th place.
(On the Spa track, the Renault Clio International Challenge raced along with the Belgian Renault Clio Cup participants for a total of 32 cars on track)
"It was beautiful adventure. The Spa track is one of my favourites and although I had never driven on this track with a Clio before, I knew that I could do well. I immediately did well starting from the free practice session; in fact I was 4th overall. Together with the team, we worked hard to find the perfect set up and the results during the qualifications prove this. I was in 3rd and 2nd in my category (ninth and seventh overall).
Race 1 was on Saturday night. I didn't start off too well and I lost a few positions. This partly influenced the race because I was forced to push myself to the maximum to try to gain some positions. At the end of this, I managed to conquer my first podium on board the Clio and if I may say so, I think I deserved it. In fact, my fastest lap was only a second away from the winner's time set. If I had started off well, I could have won.
Race 2 was characterized by a contact with a Belgian Renault Clio Cup driver at the start. I was second in my category when the race started but I was immediately hit and thrown off track. I finished the fist lap last in line but I tried to climb my way up. In two laps, I was able to overtake 13 adversaries and was in fifth place. Then the safety car come on track for a few laps and when the safety car left, I pushed the car to the maximum but hadn't taken into consideration that the tyres had cooled off. For this reason, I didn't have much grip and went off track. I lost a few positions in the meantime and finished in 9th place in the Renault Clio International Challenge."
