The operative word when discussing the 1996 racing season at northwest Connecticut's Lime Rock Park is variety. Lime Rock offers one of the most diverse schedules in the Northeast, including some of the biggest motorsports events of the season.
Among the '96 highlights are:
*The season opening Sports Car Club of America NESCCA National races AND Lime Rock Karting Association championship on Saturday May 4
*The Dodge Dealers Grand Prix of Lime Rock -- The Largest Sports Car Race in North America -- Friday May 24 through Monday May 27
*The 14th Annual Dodge Vintage Festival, featuring the cars and drivers of the SCCA Continetal Championship era 1968-74, on Labor Day weekend Aug 30 to Sept. 2
*Dodge Dealers NASCAR 200, the season finale for the NASCAR Busch North Grand National series, Saturday October 12

Dodge Dealers Grand Prix -- Over the Memorial Day weekend seven prfoessional road-racing series events will run on Lime Rock's 1.53 mile circuit, featuring over 200 cars providing more than seven hours of racing action. Headliners include IMSA's Exxon World Sports Car, featuring the Riley&Scott Olds Aurora which has already won at Daytona and Sebring, and which will run the 24 Hours of LeMans shortly after its Lime Rock appearance; the defedning champion Ferrari 333SP; plus at least 2 Ford V8 powered entries from Poughkeepsie's Rob Dyson. Co-feature for the weekend will be the Sports Car Club of America TransAm championship, now in its 30th historic season, with racing versions of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Lime Rock will also mark the debut of the North American Touring Car Championship, the inauguration of European-style two-liter sedan racing on this side of the Atlantic; Dodge, the first American manufacturer to take on the established European and Japanese factories in this type of racing, will introduce its two car Stratus team. Support races will include the single-seat Barber Dodge Pro Series, the PPG Neon Challenge, SCCA World Challenge and Exxon GTS series. Sunday, a non-racing day at Lime Rock, will host the Mopar Expo, the largest Chrylser auto show and swap meet in the Northeast.
Dodge Vintage Festival -- Labor Day's four-star attraction includes vintage & historic car races, a giant automotive swap meet, the Sunday Show of Shelbys and a Concours d'Elegance. This years featured theme will be a reunion of the cars and drivers from the early years of professional single-seater road-racing in the Continental Championship, four cylinder and American V8 powered racing cars produced by Eagle, Lola Lotus,McLaren and driven by stars such as David Hobbs, Sam Posey, Brian Redman, and others, including TV personality Dick Smothers.
Dodge Dealers NASCAR 200 -- last year 60 cars signed in to try to qualify for 36 starting slots in the NASCAR North season finale, a race which also decided the series title in favor of Maine's Kelly Moore over Mike Stefanik.
