Salem, IN (December 5, 2001) – The Kendall Late Model Series has agreed to make Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company the “Official Race Tires” of the Kendall Series starting with the 2002 race season. The Kendall Series raced on Goodyear’s in its inaugural season in 1997, but had been on Hoosier Race Tires since 1998.
“Goodyear came to us with a very strong program for the Kendall Late Model Series,” remarked Kendall Series Managing Partner R.J. Scott, “We would like to thank Hoosier Race Tire for their support the past four years, with their help the series has experienced tremendous growth.” “The decision to go with Goodyear for 2002 will help take the series to the next level, but will keep our racers on a proven tire at a very affordable price.”
Before making the change, the series conducted an extensive tire test with Goodyear’s at Winchester Speedway, the series’ most demanding track on tires. Series veteran Peter Cozzolino, event fast qualifier and winner at Winchester this year, conducted the tire test. The test confirmed that the Goodyear was very durable as Cozzolino put 115 punishing laps on a set of tires with very good wear results. The Goodyear tire also was very consistent on times through out the run.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company will continue to support the Kendall Series point fund, as well as add dollars to the weekly purse with two special awards. Goodyear has also made the commitment to control the increase in tire prices over the length of the agreement, 2002 will mark the first year the Kendall Series competitors will not see a price increase for tires.
The new “Goodyear Performance Awards” will be given to the driver in finishing positions one through five, who improved the most positions, and given to the driver in finishing positions six through ten who improved the most positions. The two $150 bonuses will be awarded at each event in 2002.
Dealer information for the series tires will be announced at a later date. The Kendall Late Model Series would like to thank Ellis Race Cars and Baum’s Racing Supply, the series’ tire dealers the past four years, for their hard work and support of the series.
