(Nov. 22, 1995) -- James "Bob" Laycock, 81, Indianapolis, official historian and press room director at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, died Wednesday, according to the Indianapolis Star/News.

Mr. Laycock: -worked at the Speedway since 1949 -news room director since 1953 -member of IMS's Hall of Fame committe -coordinator of the IMS's tire testing staff He was editor or co-editor of the Official "500" fact book since 1960, editor of the USAC rule book since 1980.

He founded: -The "500" Oldtimers Club -Hoosier Auto Racing Fans -American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Assoication.

Service for Mr. Laycock will be in Speedway Chapel, Conkle Funeral Home at 10 am November 27. Calling will be on November 26th from 3 to 9 pm.
