IPSC 2000 BUILDS ON PAST SUCCESS (December 28) - The International Pro Stock Challenge (IPSC) series 2000 race schedule will double the number of events held in the 1999 season, which was the first full year for the touring stock car series that showcases the talents of the best short track drivers in Eastern Canada and New England. Seeing much success at the six events held at two facilities in '99, the series promoters have scheduled 12 events at seven tracks for next season. The new additions will see the exciting series showcase their door handle-to-door handle style of racing in the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec and the New England states of Maine and New Hampshire. Scotia Speedworld, located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, will be the anchor track for the IPSC 2000 as they host five events including the stock car race with the richest winning purse ever offered in Eastern Canada - $10,000 (U.S.) - in the Atlantic CAT 200 on August 18th and 19th. White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, New Hampshire will host two events. Additional venues include Shediac Can-Am Speedway in Shediac, New Brunswick; Circuit Ste-Croix in Ste-Croix, Quebec; Speedway 95 in Bangor, Maine and two others with exact locations to be announced in the near future. With the expansion, the series will be administrated by On Track Promotions, Inc., and co-managed by Randy Black (Director of Competition) and Joan Roui (Director of Public Relations & Marketing). Black is a native of Maine and Roui of Nova Scotia. Both have been involved in similar capacities with the IPSC since its inception in 1998. Other administrative changes for the IPSC 2000 will see all purses and awards published and paid in U.S. funds, including the $30,000 the 2000 series champion will take home. "It's our goal to make this the most exciting race series ever seen in this region," said Black. "It's our job to come up with the best possible competition package to offer the racers and the best possible entertainment package for the fans. It's fairly basic. Consistency and communication equal competition and excitement. We feel like we have established a good base for this expansion in '98 and '99 and look forward to growing in 2,000 and beyond." The IPSC 2000 will see the same race day formats as used in the past, with time trials and qualifying races setting the fields for the feature events. Points will be scored by drivers based on finishing positions in feature events and accumulated season-long to determine the series champion. All feature races, with the exception of the Aug. 18/19 Atlantic CAT 200, will be 150 laps. The minimum feature race winners share will be $5,000 (U.S.). Past IPSC champions include the late Scott Kelly, from Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia (1998) and Scott Fraser from Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia (1999).
