Wong Kwai-Wah is provisional winner of accident marred race

In the second round of the HTCC 1600cc/N2000cc Group A race, numerous accidents involving a number of drivers have marred the race and Wong Kwai- Wah was declared the winner.

Choi Tin-O and Ng Wai-Man crashed at T3 on lap 1 and the organizers sent out the safety car. Kong Siu-Bing's car is also involved and therefore unable to continue. Ng Wai-Man was unable to emerge from his car himself and medical help was needed. Fortunately he was later declared okay.

Chan Pak-Yu slipstreamed Wong Kwai-Wah down the main straight successfully only for Wong Kwai-Wag to fight back at the next sequence of corners. But Wong outbraked himself going into T3 and he moved onto the grass to try to avoid Chan. Wong hit Chan and Chan was half-spun, he recovered but by now third placed Alex Lin has pulled up right alongside.

Alex Lin's left rear touched Chan Pak-Yu's right front and Chan was sent crashing out of the race. Alex Lin's rear bumper also came off in the process.

Wong began to slow and was overtaken by Chung Chik-Wai and Alex Lin on lap 9. But the organizer finally decided to stop the race on lap 8 because Chan's car was parked at a dangerous position and it could not be easily removed.

As is usual practice, the result was counted back to lap 8 though with Wong Kwai-Wah declared the winner and Alex Lin was disqualified for causing an avoidable accident.

Round 3 and 4 of the championship will be held on 31 July and 1 August 2004.
