MIAMI (Dec. 17, 1999) – Homestead-Miami Speedway is working with the United States Marine Corps to brighten the Holidays for the children of South Florida. The Speedway and Pennzoil have donated 1,000 1/12 scale model replicas of Arnold Palmer’s Classic Golf Course Tractor to the USMC Toys for Tots of Miami.

The tractors will be distributed to non-profit organizations and single families who have requested them. The Marines will distribute approximately 200,000 toys this year.

"The Marine Corps Toys for Tots is a very worthy national cause, and we are very happy to join Pennzoil in supporting their efforts here in South Florida," said Curtis Gray, President of Homestead-Miami Speedway. "This is another way we can reach out and thank the community for the tremendous support they have extended to us."

The collectible model tractors are based on the vehicle purchased for Arnold Palmer’s father in the late 1940s, while he was course superintendent at Latrobe (Pa.) Country Club. The future golfing legend’s chores included upkeep of the tractor, which he later made famous in television commercials.

Palmer was the Grand Marshal for the recent Pennzoil 400 presented by Kmart, the debut of NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing in South Florida. Palmer drove the original tractor on the Speedway during the pre-race festivities, with replicas of the tractor given to the media and VIPs at the race.
