London, UK, Tuesday 15th May 2001: The Gulf Audi R8 returns to action this weekend in Round 2 of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) at Circuito del Jarama, Spain. The Johansson Racing team will be looking to build upon an excellent performance in the first round at Donington Park, UK, in which they finished third - drivers Stefan Johansson and Guy Smith narrowly missing out on second place in the final stages of the race.

The dynamic duo will be looking to once again mix it with the works Panoz and Audis and this time hope that good fortune accompanies a strong team performance. "We took delivery of the car in March and finished fourth at Sebring followed by third at Donington," explains Mike Earle for Johansson Racing. "Things are improving all the time and we hope this is reflected in the outcome at the weekend. This is an important race for us - not only are we looking to build points in the ELMS, we also want to ensure that the car is in good shape for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June."

As British driver Guy Smith adds, "neither Stefan or myself have driven at Jarama before but we are quick learners and are ready for the challenge. It was a disappointment to finish third at Donington and although it will be difficult to beat the works Audis it is by no means impossible and is clearly our aim."

The last time the famous colours of Gulf Oil raced at Jarama was in 1996 when the team achieved a memorable 'one-two' with its McLaren F1 GTR's. As Vasant Bharath, Vice President - Global Brand Development for Gulf Oil comments, "a very strong field has assembled for this ELMS race but we are confident that the quality of drivers Stefan and Guy and the professionalism of the Johansson Racing team will ensure that the Gulf name is once again well represented at this Spanish circuit."

Qualifying for Round 2 of the European Le Mans Series takes place at Circuito del Jarama on Saturday 19th May, with the 2hour 45minute endurance race commencing at 13:00 local time on Sunday 20th where the Johansson Racing Gulf Audi R8 will line up for an exciting rolling start.
