IN VICTORY LANE AT GREENWOOD VALLEY By Than Mitchell
Joe Bednarski, Wyoming, PA, did it again, taking home the prize for winning the Micro Sprint Feature at the Greenwood Valley Action Track on Saturday night. Jason Kemp, a Bloomsburg native, led most of the race, holding off Bednarski's constant challenge until the next-to-last lap when Bednarski finally made the pass in his King Chassis machine, then held off Kemp who crossed the line a close second. Bednarski started his charge from the 11th position and said after the race that he never thought he could make it to the front of the field. Finishing in third place was Bloomsburg's Brent Boyer, followed by Rick Tanner; Troy "Buster" Whitesell, Selinsgrove; Blaine Heimbach, Selinsgrove; Todd Rittenhouse; Henry Schlegal; David Utt, Bloomsburg and Jeff Furlong, Selinsgrove.
In the Rookie Micro Sprint Feature, Jake Park from Rome, PA, took his first feature win at the Action Track causing Victory Lane to be filled with pit crew and family members to congratulate the young driver. Close behind Park was Neil Petock, Bloomsburg, a recent Feature winner. Over the line next was Eric Heydenreich, Bloomsburg; Rick Morris, Catawissa; Bree Boyer, Bloomsburg; Jerry Mack, Selinsgrove; Josh Philpott, Waverly, NY; Billy Graves, Port Crane, NY; Jason Wagner, Port Trevorton and Scott Lawrence, Conklin, NY.
The Lite Kart Feature carried an extra incentive because of Russ Kinslow of Kreamer, a regular competitor at the Action Track. Kinslow, owner and operator of his own racing enterprise, Lil' Greenwood Raceway, added $50 to the regular purse making the payoff for a win a good night's work.
A field of 12 karts started the race and the racing was hot and close. Tom Tice, an occasional visitor to The Action Track, handled his machine as if on a rail from the green flag to checkered. Starting on the pole, Tice held off all challenges. The hottest action took place back in the field as Ryan Lauer, State College, and Ken Duke, Selinsgrove, mixed it up for several laps with Joe Hogan, Plymouth, shadowing their actions. Wes Hendricks, who was strong from the start, faded as the laps wound down. Hogan took third and held on to finish behind Duke who crossed the line second. Coming home the winner, and walking away with the added purse was pole sitter Tom Tice.
Russ Kinslow and the Lil' Greenwood Raceway invite fans and competitors to the track located near Thompsontown on Route 35, where the action gets underway at 7:00 pm on Friday evenings. Then join us Saturday at Greenwood Valley Action Track for another complete night of oval dirt track racing. Bring the family, have some great food from our snack bars, and settle back for excitement, and make a day of it. Warm-ups start at 5:30 and racing at its best begins at 6:00
