Sharp with Double Podium at Brands Hatch

The IDL team and Camberley driver Tom Sharp headed for the Brands hath GP circuit (Kent) for rounds 7, 8 and 9 of the Ginetta G50 Cup supporting the British Touring Car Championship.

Sharp, currently sitting in third place overall in the drivers' championship qualified the number 10 car in fourth place just being beaten in the closing stages of the session by rivals Carl Breeze, Frank Wrathall and Chris Dittman.

The first race of the weekend got underway on Saturday morning with the car of Frank Wrathall dropping out at the start with a fuel leak. After the opening lap of the race, Sharp dropped to fourth after being passed by Ben Hetherington into paddock hill bend on the opening lap. Two laps in and Sharp retook the place entering druids and sustained the pressure from the car behind to take second place after car troubles for Chris Dittman on the final lap of the race.

With Sharp finishing the opening race in second place, this is where he would start race two. With Breeze starting alongside Sharp, the pair broke free from third place in the opening stages of the race and Breeze began to pull a small advantage from the car behind at the mid-way point in the race. Sharp began to close the gap to the leader and for the last four laps the pair were nose to tail until the end of the race with Breeze managing to hold on till the end.

"It was such an enjoyable for me, I was so close to my first win in the championship and I gave it absolutely everything I had to try and get it."

The next races for the Ginetta G50 Cup will take place on the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire on June 5th/6th
