Dittmann on Podium again after strong weekend
Tewkesbury's Chris Dittmann and again competing in the Ginetta G50 Cup races at Oulton Park, which supports the British Touring Car Championship.
A fantastic qualifying session saw Dittmann take 2nd place, his best position of this season.
In Race 1, the two by two grid made it difficult to achieve track position into the first corner, and then a clash with Wrathall meant he was squeezed onto the grass which dropped him to third. After a few laps Dittmann pulled away from the cars behind and started to edge back to second place Wrathall. After an incident with a backmarker, 2nd place Wrathall took the escape road into Knickerbrook so Dittmann tried to capitalise, however he ran wide to avoid the backmarker and in fact lost even more time, dropping back into the grasps of the next two drivers. He managed to hold the position to achieve his 4th podium of the season.
With the grid for race 2 decided on the finishing order in Race 1, Dittmann started race 2 in 3rd position and after a fantastic start, he managed to take 2nd into the first corner.
After the first few laps the leader Breeze and Dittmann pulled out a sizeable lead and Dittmann began to put pressure on the leader. After ten laps he was still only half a second behind the leader pushing extremely hard to take the lead. The racer in Dittmann wasn't going to settle for a comfortable second place and so he pushed the car to the absolute limit to keep up the incredible pace at the front. Then on lap 10 Dittmann ran slightly wide on the exit of the first corner (old hall) and got onto the slippery kerb and spun. However he recovered hard to secure 6th place.
As Dittmann commented at the end of the weekend "I want to saw thank you to everyone at Chris Dittmann Racing for working so hard all weekend to get the car going so quick. We have proved as a team we can run front-running and reliable race cars and have drives available for the rest of the season."
