Dittmann on the Podium again at wet Brands Hatch
Tewkesbury's Chris Dittmann had another eventful weekend, in the BTCC supporting Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup, which finally ended with a deserved podium in the very wet conditions at Brands Hatch.
With a threat of rain all weekend the qualifying for the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup took place on early Saturday morning in dry conditions. After qualifying Dittmann commented "A fantastic qualifying session where I secured 3rd position just one and a half tenths off of pole around the long Brands Hatch GP circuit".
The first race took place just after lunch on Saturday, still in dry conditions, and from the start Dittmann had a strong start and after an early threat from behind he moved into 2nd position and closed right onto the back of the leader Carl Breeze. Throughout the race on the challenging Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit Dittmann pushed Breeze all the way until on the very last lap disaster stuck with a gearbox linkage failure meant he only had 2nd gear and so he limped to the chequered flag in a disappointing 12th place. During the race he was only two thousands of a second off fastest lap, showing he definitely had the car setup well for consistent pace.
With the rules for qualifying in 2010 changed to mirror the BTCC qualifying rules, this meant Dittmann started 12th for the second race of the weekend and after a strong start which moved him up into 7th place, he had to avoid a collision with another driver and the resulting spin dropped him down the field. After a good recovery drive he finished in 11th place.
The final race of the weekend took place on Sunday afternoon on a soaking Brands hatch circuit, with visibility at a premium. After a brilliant start Dittmann made up two places into Paddock Hill and a further two more into Druids. The safety car was the deployed after a multi car accident, and so after one lap he had climbed from 11th to 4th place.
He then closed into 3rd place Tyldesley after after a few laps he made a mistake at Clark Curve, a few laps after restart, which he capitalised on and moved into 3rd place. In the very difficult conditions, he managed to push the second place driver all the way to the flag for a desved 3rd place finish after a total of 4 safety cars. As Dittmann commented after the races "A brilliant result after a more bad luck early in the weekend. Thanks to everyone at Chris Dittmann Racing, the car has been fantastic all weekend and a thoroughly deserved podium"
The next meeting of the BTCC supporting Ginetta G50 Cup championship will take place at the daunting Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire on June 5th & 6th
