Bertuzzi takes 1998 title at Pergusa

Pergusa, 6th September - Thanks to a double win at the Pergusa track, Costantino Bertuzzi is the 1998 Ferrari Challenge and Pirelli Trophy champion for 1998.

He dominated the weekend and having started from pole, Bertuzzi led the spring race from start to finish. A great battle raged behind him for the other podium places between Stefano Livio and Beppe Schenetti, Livio took second place after Schenetti failed to come in for a stop - go penalty imposed on him and was disqualified.

Third was Adriano Baso. Among the gentlemen drivers, victory went to Vincenzo Sauto followed by Mario La Barbera and Claudio Rossetto. The endurance race was led away by Andrea Belluzzi, thanks to his quickest lap in the sprint event. Bertuzzi, who started from the second row with the third quickest time, managed to make up a place at the first corner before passing Belluzzi on the second lap. From them it was a trouble free run for the Rosso Corsa team champion. Alongside him on the podium were Belluzzi (second) and Baso (third.) Rossetto took the honours in the gentleman driver category ahead of Bernardo Farruggio and Renato Luglio.

This was Bertuzzi's second consecutive title after driving an impeccable race. "My F 355 ran really perfectly. Now I am thinking about the Intercontinental Finals in November. Imola is my favourite track and I could have few rivals there!"
