Round 1 of the 2000 Europa Cup Ireland, 8 April 2000

Jason Curran, young karting sensation from Newtownards, Co Down, Northern Ireland, had his first run in a Formula Europa car after a last-minute deal at Kirkistown Circuit this weekend. He drove Henry O'Friel's race car for 10 laps in testing, and then his team built up another car for Saturday's race. This was last raced in 1994, so there was much work to be done but the Leslie Wright Racing team, helped by the driver and his friends, managed to get him out for qualifying the next morning. Sadly, a misfire the team was unable to rectify prevented Jason from showing his true potential.

Tommy Reid brought four cars to Kirkistown, including his Formula Europa which he not only ran in the Europa Cup race, finishing eighth, but also in the Formula Libre race later in the afternoon. While other teams had mechanical problems, Tommy's car didn't miss a beat all afternoon.

Paul Dagg's race was shortened by a flat battery. After a new one was fitted he rejoined the race and set fastest lap.

David Meegan couldn't attend the race as he had a job at work he couldn't get out of. He hopes to be out for the next round at Mondello Park.
