A little satisfaction for Russians
First European Touring Car Cup (FIA ETCCup) went off on Italian Vallelunga racetrack on October 16th. For Russian competitors this international meeting was a serious exam and race results bring us just a little satisfaction.
S2000 class fellow BMW drivers Mikhail Ukhov (Avtodom Racing BMW Russia) and Rustem Teregulov (Schubert Motors) was gaining more and more speed during pre-race test sessions. Finally they established 18th and 20th on the grid - 2.5 and 3.2 sec slower than Alex Zanardi pole-position time. For Ukhov it was disappointing day: 47-years old two times Russian champion became a victim of driveshaft failure on the grid. Mechanics could repair the car - but Mikhail lost his car on the 2nd lap of race two dring the overtaking manoeuvre.
Teregulov, on the contrary, could finish both races riding yellow BMW320i, and made some overtakings. Rustem was 13th twice and just missed Top12 overall - and Yokohama tyre company prize money. "ETCCup show that we should do more tests and races to raise up our results, but nevertheless I pleased with my races today", - Teregulov commented.
In Superproduction class with it modest entry list our chances were more appreciable. Despite some technical problems and lack of testing time Sport- Garage drivers Sergey Krylov and SP debutant Andrey Nikolaev successfully completed the whole distance on VW Golf's and climbed 2nd and 3rd podium positions.
S. Krylov: "This is a good result for Russian motorsport and I am happy for everyone involved. It means so much to be here and I have met so many interesting people, it has been a brilliant weekend."
