The European Super Touring Cup's calendar has been finally fixed. The tenth racemeeting of the series' maiden season, originally planned to take place on October 15, will be anticipated to July 9. The event will be hosted by Imola's "Enzo and Dino Ferrari" F1 circuit.
For previous commitments, the famed and beautiful Italian track was unavailable to Euro STC on the wanted date in October. For this reason, after many deliberations, International Sport Communication, who organizes and rules the European series for Super Touring Cars, and Sagis, the circuit's owner company, have reached an agreement on another date in July. Thus, Imola will host Euro STC's sixth raceday, just one week after the one in Budapest and fifteen days before the one in Misano.
At Imola, Italian Ferrari Challenges and Alfa Romeo GTV Cup, will provide the supporting races. The European Super Touring Cup will race its finale at Vallelunga, near Rome, on September 24.
SWEDISH INTERESTED IN EURO STC TEAM BOSSES DECLARED AT KNUTSTORP
The Swedish teams are strongly interested to take part in some races of the European Super Touring Cup. That has come out from the visit that two members of the International Sport Communication have paid to the Swedish Touring Car Championship last week in Knutstorp.
Thomas Johansson and Eje Elgh, respectively team principals of STCC's Volvo and Nissan squads, confirmed they are planning to run their cars in the two final meetings of this Euro STC's season: Brno, on September 17 and Vallelunga one week later. Maybe other Swedish teams will join, as the STCC will finish at Mantorp Park on September 10.
Further talkings between ISC and Swedish organizers, considered the idea to include a trip to Sweden in the Euro STC's 2001 calendar. Date and venue are not yet fixed, but the event should clash with one of the STCC's rounds.
