SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Empire Super Sprints (ESS) and the New Utica-Rome Speedway are pleased to announce a second event at the ultra-fast half-mile oval in Vernon, N.Y. On Wednesday night, Oct. 9, the winged warriors of will kick off five strait nights of racing action as a part of Super DIRT Week 2002. The first event will be held on Labor Day weekend, Sunday night, Sept. 1.

With the addition of the sprints at Utica-Rome on Wednesday night, fans that are attending the extravaganza at the New York State Fairgrounds from Oct. 9-13 will get their fix after the sun goes down for all five days. Thursday night and Friday night, the DIRT 358 modifieds will headline at Brewerton and Rolling Wheels Raceway with the annual ESS/URC Challenge Event to be run Saturday night at Rolling Wheels.

The 2002 version of SDW is expected to be the most exciting ever with not only the addition of ESS at Utica but also the return of the USAC Silver Crown Series to the "Moody Mile" It's going to be an open wheel, dirt track fan's dream.

Last year ESS made the return to Utica-Rome after a five year absence with young Steve Dow coming home the winner blitzing the tacky track with record speeds. Dow along with many other ESS stars such as Mike Woodring, Dan Kaszubinski, Lance Yonge and Mike Stelter will be in the field for both events at the Eric Kingsley promoted facility.

It might be a chilly October evening presented by Nice N' Easy Grocery Shoppes, but the hot action of the Empire Super Sprints will be all you need to heat up the grandstands.
