ERNIE SAXTON UNANIMOUS CHOICE AS PRESIDENT OF EMPA

TREVOSE, PA January 9, 2000 . . . The Eastern Motorsport Press Association was founded in 1969. Since that time Ernie Saxton has been president all but two years. Saxton, publisher of Motorsports Sponsorship Marketing News, and a writer for the Times Herald (Norristown, PA), Area Auto Racing News (Trenton, NJ), Inside Track (Canada), Motorsports Weekly and other publications and websites, was unanimously re-elected to the presidency of the 250 member media organization. The election was part of activities taking place during the three day EMPA Convention at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Trevose, PA. "It is quite an honor to be re-elected president of such a fine organization. This convention was one of our best with Joe Amato, Tony Stewart and Greg Ray plus a number of local and regional racers, organizations and event promoters coming in to participate," said Saxton. "Our main goal with EMPA is to improve the amount of attention the sport earns in the various media. And we are striving to bring more attention to local and regional short track racing. We have some big plans for the organization in the future. We see what the media has done for other major and minor sports and continue to try to do just that for motorsports." Len Sammons, publisher of Area Auto Racing News, will serve as vice-president. Bill Yoder, Montgomery Publishing, returns as treasurer. David Moulthrop, Berkshire Courier and Gater Racing News, will be the Northeast Vice President and Marilyn Saxton is secretary. Board members for the next two years include John Snyder (Area Auto Racing News), Dick Brinster (Associated Press), Bob Yurko ( freelance photographer), Herb Anastor (Area Auto Racing News) and Bill Huneke (New Brunswick, NJ Home News). Dates for the 2001 convention have been set for January 5-7 and is tentatively set for the same Radission Hotel & Conference Center. Membership is open to professional media. And there are membership opportunities for associate and corporate members. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2001 Convention. The organization will also participate in a number of media functions during the course of 2000. For information telephone Ernie Saxton at 215.752.7797 or e-mail at erniesaxton@csi.com.
