Former WRC star turned racing driver Markko Martin has decided to bring a halt to his touring car racing ambitions for the time being. Having taken part in the first three rounds of the Danish Touringcar Championship, the Estonian has decided to stop racing in the series.

"Markko has told me that his decision is based on a lack of time," team owner Hans Hartmann says. "Markko feels that he is to busy at the moment, and that circuit racing hasn't really caught his interest."

Hans Hartmann of Hartmann Honda Racing fields two Honda Accord Euro-R built by JAS Engineering, and the Dane has also been having discussions with the Italian racing car constructor about letting Markko Martin drive one of the Italian team's WTCC cars in one of the non-European races, but the Estonian has also turned that offer down.

Markko Martin took part in a total of three rounds of the series, his best being the round at the fast Padborg Park. He finished race one in fifth position right behind team mate Martin Jensen, and in the second race where he started from pole position due to the reversed grid he was battling with former Grand Prix driver Jan Magnussen for the lead when he went of the circuit.

Before quitting the Danish Touringcar Championship Markko Martin was sharing 16th place overall with former champion Jason Watt, having a total of 16 points compared to the 67 points team mate Martin Jensen in fourth place had amassed in the other Hartmann Honda.

After a two month summer break the Danish Touringcar Championship will resume battle at Ring Djursland on August 13th, when Hans Hartmann will be taking over the seat left vacant by Markko Martin until a replacement driver has been found.
