First high speed test for new Toyota Corolla

Wednesday saw this year's first common test day for the competitors in this year's Danish Touringcar Championship at Jyllands-Ringen, and it also marked the public debut of Toyota Castrol Racing's new Toyota Corolla.

Before the test session the car had only performed various systems checks at a local driving facility, but judging by its performance at Jyllands-Ringen no-one seemed to be in doubt that Jørgen Nielsen has designed a very competitive package.

Toyota Castrol Racing's two drivers, Kurt Thiim and Henrik Lundgaard, were thus not plagued by all the regular new-car problems that you see on a roll-out, and instead they could concentrate on testing and developing their new vehicle, which will make its race debut on May 12th. The new car showed good speed, which caused a few raised eyebrows by the competitors also taking part in the test.

German champion Markus Gedlich on test duty

Winner of the final round of the Danish Touringcar Championship in 2001, Mike Legarth, has been using international drivers on a regular basis, when developing his BMW 320i, and this year's start to the testing season was no exception.

This time Legarth -- who recently was elected a mayor of his hometown -- had struck a deal with 2001 winner of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Challenge, Markus Gedlich. The choice of Gedlich was quite obvious, as the lanky Schubert Motorsport driver is a teammate to young Dane Thomas Serwin, who also performs test duties for Mike Legarth's team.

Markus Gedlich's input proved helpful for Mike Legarth and Team Vamdrup in dialing-in their BMW 320i so that they will be able to hit the ground running this year.
