Casper Elgaard got gold and Jan Magnussen was Danish Driver of the Year

A number of prominent drivers from the Danish Touringcar Championship entered the scene when the sixth annual Awards Evening was held in the town of Herning in the western part of Denmark. The Awards Evening formed the closure of the 2005 season, and one of the highlights was the crowning of the top three drivers of the national saloon car series.

In front of an audience of 600 persons Casper Elgaard got his second consecutive gold medal for having won the Danish Touringcar Championship, while Jens Edman got his bronze medal, thus becoming the first ever non-Dane to claim such an award in the series.

Jan Magnussen ended the season with runner-up spot in the series, but he was absent due to his brother's wedding. However, it was not the only time during the Awards Evening that the popular Dane was missing from the spotlights. For the third time in his career Jan Magnussen was given the prestigious Driver of the Year Award by Dansk Automobil Sports Union, the Danish sporting authority. A major reason for awarding him with the prize was his ability to win in five different racing series during 2005.

Other major awards were also presented at the ceremony.

The seven time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen received the classical Holtzer Trophy which goes back to 1919, while the organizer of the Danish Touringcar Championship, Peter Elgaard, handed out the organizations honourary prize. This year the award was given to Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen, Danish Touringcar Championship driver John Nielsen and the press officer of the Danish Touringcar Championship, Morten Alstrup.
