Clio Cup China at Renault Race Festival

When: Thursday 13 to Sunday 16, May, 2010
Where: Nurburgring, Germany
Grid: 92 cars in the whole race

Qualifying Day 1 (Thu)

Cloudy with light rain
Tires: Slick

The session started at 16:00 (German time). Kenneth Ma (white, orange & blue car), who brought the Clio Cup series to China in 2009, set 11:26.263 at the 25.378km Nurburgring Green Hell. Ma qualified the best among all the Asian drivers (19th in total). Paul POON, the seasoned touring car driver from Hong Kong, set 11:35.750 within 3 laps try, taking position 24. Oliver LEE, another driver from Hong Kong known for his good GT racing craft, was rather conservative as he was expecting good weather the next day at qualifying 2. For Yu Kam Cheong, it was his first time at Green Hell and he survived the qualifying session in his silver Clio racing car.

Qualifying Day 2 (Fri)

Cloudy with light rain
Tires: Rain

The 2nd qualifying session started early in the morning. For POON, the track was less wet and less slippery than yesterday. Paul POON managed to take 30 seconds off his best lap and set 11:06 in 5 laps' time. Oliver LEE's tactic didn't work as the weather didn't get any better. LEE had a minor crash with another car during the session, which didn't affect his good shape. LEE set 11:35 in the end. Yu Kam Cheong's lap time got better as got familiar with the track.

Clio Cup China drivers are in group 1 (22 cars) for Saturday morning race, POON will start from a favorable P11, with Kenneth on 16th and LEE 19th.
