FREE SPORTS CAR RACING SEMINARS IN CHICAGO-
Get off the couch and into the cockpit! For a free taste of what's involved in getting into the exciting sport of amateur road racing, don't miss this series of ground schools to be held March 6th, 13th and 20th and 27th, 1998 at the Holiday Inn, Rolling Meadows, Illinois.
Topics covered include cars eligible for racing, personal safety gear required, racing rules and driving techniques. Three types of road racing are offered- open track time trials for street and race cars, vintage/historic racing, and current era wheel-to-wheel racing. All race fans, including prospective drivers, crew and race staff members are invited to attend the free series.
Chicago area racing group, North Suburban Sports Car Club and their Illinois-Wisconsin sanctioning body, Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs, have presented these free and open-to-the-public seminars every year since 1961. Several hundred potential racing drivers, race staff members and fans are expected to attend.
The clubs point with pride to members who have done well in the pro ranks, but quickly acknowledge that most of their new pilots will use auto racing as an exciting hobby. Nonetheless, the basic race driving training they provide is the correct first step for a new driver with the skill and determination to make it into the big time.
The free seminars are held on the four Fridays of March at the Holiday Inn, 2501 Algonquin Road (Ill. Rte. 62) Rolling Meadows IL, just north of the I-90 and I-53 intersection. Registration, films and racing equipment displays start at 7 PM. Classroom sessions start promptly at 7:30 PM.
