Camirand Completes Castrol Touring Car Sweep at Mosport's Victoria Day SpeedFest

(BOWMANVILLE, ON -- May 23, 2010) -- Marc-Antoine Camirand has served notice that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2010 Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires after sweeping both races in the season opener at Victoria Day SpeedFest at Mosport International Raceway.

-- Marc-Antoine Camirand has served notice that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2010 Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires after sweeping both races in the season opener at Victoria Day SpeedFest at Mosport International Raceway.

Much like Saturday's heat race, the Camirand Competition driver went toe--to -- toe throughout 20-lap feature with the Lombardi Racing Honda Civic of defending Super Touring (ST) class champion Nick Wittmer. In the end, Camirand's BMW M Coupe got the better of Wittmer again, this time by 1.424 seconds.

Camirand credits the development work done on his BMW during the off-season with giving him an edge this weekend.

"All the work we did in the off-season on the dyno, making the car stronger made a difference. On the back straight I was able to really pull the gap on Nick," Camirand said.

Although he won both races this weekend, Camirand expects tough battles with the Lombardi Racing Hondas -- and with Wittmer in particular -- are a sign of things to come.

"Nick's a great driver, so it's going to be tough. We're going to go back and work on the car and improve things [before returning to Mopsort]", he said.

Mathieu Audette finished third in ST in his Acura RSX.

The Touring class also feature a repeat winner as Anthony Rapone of Durabond/Compass360 Racing put his Honda Civic at the top of the podium again, edging out the Mini Cooper of P.J. Groenke and the M&S Racing Honda Civic of Tom Kwok.

The next stop on the schedule is a return to Mosport as part of the Vortex Brake Pads 200 weekend, June 11-13.
