G1 Racing has strong start to season Corner 1
The G1 Racing team had a strong start to the season this Saturday as both Genesis Coupes showed remarkable improvement in speed and handling. With a field of 38 cars, John Lockhart qualified 11th and Bob Attrell took the 7th row in 14th place. The race began with a dramatic start as a BMW's hood came loose and sharp plastic littered the track. Both Genesis Coupes took advantage of the mayhem and were soon closing the ranks. The #88 AutoTrader car and the #87 Castrol car had the speed and handling to throw down the gauntlet for the rest of the season. Bob Attrell posted a very respectable 1:34.4 fastest lap and went on to take a top ten finish -- rounding out the first race of the year with a ninth place position.
Bob Attrell driving the AutoTrader Genesis commented: "The season looks to be much more exciting for the team. There are not as many problems as last year and if you're not dealing with problems, you can work on performance. We' re really excited about this season and the improvements we've seen."
Sunday's race saw John Lockhart vying for the Hard Charger Award. Due to technical problems he started at the back of the grid in 27th position. Throughout the race he made some incredible advances to work his way up to 13th position at the chequered flag. Bob Attrell also put in a good performance on Sunday demonstrating the strength of the Genesis Coupe as a race car.
With the recent arrival of the team's new technical director Sasha Anis, and the strong results on the first weekend, the team has a renewed energy to secure a podium place. The next race on the calendar takes place at Mosport International Raceway -- June 11-13.
