Marcelo Bugliotti completed an amazing and surely unexpected race at the fifth round of the Turismo Carretera championship disputed at Oscar Galvez Raceway, located at Buenos Aires. Bugliotti took the victory with a Chevrolet followed in the podium by Juan M. Silva, as the best Ford, and Guillermo Ortelli, confortably leader in the standings.
Bugliotti took advantage of the mistakes and problems suffered by his rivals during the short morning races and in the main event of the day.
Quickly in the start, Bugliotti jumped to leadership from second place and never left the front until the chequered flag, despite many of the momentaries pursuers tried to catch the Chevy number 78.
Rafael Verna, who started from pole, lost the possibility in the first move while Ariel Pacho with the Torino couldn`t follow the leading rhythm.
By halfway through Patricio Di Palma seemed to be the only one to fight against Bugliotti. But Di Palma over pushed his Torino and he spun in the first corner when the first place was right there.
From that moment on lap 16, all Bugliotti did was to keep his position and achieve his second victory in TC in 24 races and after a year and a half since that first time at Bahía Blanca with Ford on October 2002.
¨I want a dedicate this result to my wife that lived a very difficult time¨, were the first words of Bugliotti before the podium ceremony surrounded by the crowd in the pits.
Silva was more than happy with his second position. This result was unexpected after the qualifying session on saturday, but a good perfonmance during the short morning race allowed him to start 12th. the main competition.
Silva drove a clean and smooth race always thinking before act. With a steady Ford, Silva took advantage of every chance that the race gave to him and is back in the championship road after a bad weekend at Balcarce. ¨I had no car to catch Marcelo, all I did was wait to any mistake¨, commented a very happy Silva who was able to share the podium with his small son for the first time.
Besides the winner, the other main star of the day was Ortelli. For different reasons, sure. The presence of Ortelli in this race was in doubt due to the low level shown by his car at Balcarce. During past weeks the four times champion tried to push the authorities criticizing the rules saying that is harmful for Chevrolet.
Four Chevys in top seven palces proved that may be Ortelli just spoke too much and too early. ¨I do not regrete of what I said before¨, he mentioned. ¨Everybody says that that I speak forgeting I`m leading the championship, but I don`t know what would happened if Omar Martínez (Ford driver) wouldn`t made so many mistakes¨, he finished.
Rules appart, one thing is clear: Turismo Carretera continues as a great show that the Argentinians enjoys and the 40000 souls present last sunday confirms this.
