THE FLORIDA RACING COMMUNITY MOURNS THE LOSS OF BERT ASHELMAN

Lake City, Fl (August 21, 2007) Bert Ashelman, former owner of Columbia Motorsports Park and Series Director of the former Florida Pro Super Late Model Series, died at approximatley 7 p.m. this evening, August 21.

While visiting his beloved Columbia Motorsports Park last Saturday, Bert suffered a severe stroke while in the pits and was found unconscious in the pits. Bert was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville in grave condition.

Bert sold Columbia Motorsports Park to Robert Hart, owner of Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway in 2005 when he decided it was time to retire and have some different fun. But Bert could not stay away and would visit the track often and all his old friends and drivers.

At one point in time, Bert had the number one Super Late Model Series in the state with drivers like David Russell, Pete Orr, and Dick Anderson among the top names. At that time if you asked a Super Late Model driver what was his dreams, it would be to drive the Florida Pro Series.

The entire FASCAR family and Florida Racing Community are saddened tonight by the loss of our friend Bert. Funeral arrangements will be posted as soon as they are known.
