Queensland entries of Gary Deane/Robert Rubis and Mark King/RodWilson were the big winners after results were re-issued for Saturday's VIP Petfoods 2-hour Showroom Showdown at Bathurst's Mt Panorama today.
Confusion reigned after the race because of decisions made by officials during the first safety car period caused by the crashed VW of Stuart McColl and Wil Davison towards the top of the mountain.
All the confusion was caused when the three leading cars in the race were wrongly called through past the pace car, allowing them cars to get almost a full-lap lead on the rest of the field.
Race officials took away the advantage gained by Graham Alexander/John Woodberry, Bob Hughes/Tony Quinn and John Bowe/Chris Dunn and re-issued the results this morning.
Originally fifth on the final timing screens, Brisbane teammates Rubis and Deane were promoted to outright second in their Subaru WRX STi. Gold Coaster King and his teammate Wilson were declared third in their King Springs Lancer RS Turbo Evo V.
"It would have been nice to have received the trophy yesterday, but I guess it is good just to clear things up," said Rubis. The result was very pleasing for Brisbane businessman Jim McKnoulty who entered the car for Deane and Rubis.
"We knew things were not right when they declared the race," said McKnoulty. "It took a while to sort it all out, but it was important for us to get what we deserved.
"Gary and Rob drove a terrific race and it is a pity they did not get any recognition on the telecast yesterday after they did all the hard work." The loser in the final results was the Gold Coast's Tony Quinn and co-driver Bob Hughes who dropped from second to ninth.
The main confusion surrounded the Quinn Lancer which was originally declared second despite three stop-go penalties and an incident on the last corner from Hughes. <pre>
