Top Drivers Confirmed For Tin Top Titles
More than 200 entries have been confirmed for the Tin Top Titles featuring Top Doorslammer and Travelaire Tours Pro Stock at Ipswich's Willowbank Raceway on April 24/25.
The Anzac Day weekend drag racing spectacular has attracted all the major contenders and with drivers vying for honours in the two group one ANDRA Australian Championships there'll be no holds barred during their pursuit for glory.
"The Top Doorslammer bracket provided some of the most intense racing when the drivers last graced the Willowbank strip during the iTEL Nationals season opener last November," said Raceway General Manager Harry Rowsell.
"Much of the same can be expected during the Tin Top Titles as all 11 drivers will be striving for just eight qualifying positions.
"All will be keen to show their wares at an event that places this fiercely contested category to the fore.
"Seven drivers will suit up in Travelaire Tours Pro Stock and as the top three are separated by just 105 points it's still anyone's guess as to who will take the title.
Queenslanders, Brett Stevens and Tony Wedlock are leading the Top Doorslammer and Travelaire Tours Pro Stock brackets, which should once again ensure a generous amount of support for all home state drivers.
Ben and Victor Bray plus Gary Phillips remain in the championship mix in Top Doorslammer, while Victorian Peter Ridgeway sits just 50 points adrift in Pro Stock, closely followed by Denis Whiting in third position.
The Tin Top Titles also boasts one of the strongest support fields assembled this season, which is positive news as Willowbank Raceway gears up for its blue ribband event, the Willowbank Winternationals on June 11-13.
"The Tin Top Titles gives all teams a chance to collect vital data before attention centres on the Winternationals spectacular.
"That's meant excellent numbers in all brackets of our track championships, including Super Street with 44 entries and Junior Dragster boasting 25.
"But perhaps the biggest coup is to see interest continue to grow in the uniquely Queensland, Supercharged Outlaws bracket where 21 drivers will line up.
"Daniel Reed has enjoyed an especially good season and is certainly on track to collect his first-ever track championship."
The Tin Top Titles serves as the major preliminary event to the Willowbank Winternationals to be held on June 11-13.
The Ipswich City Council is fully committed to motorsport in the region and is an active member of the Carnival of Horsepower promotion that seeks to encourage the general public to attend three major events on the Ipswich sporting calendar.
The Willowbank Raceway Winternationals will be held on June 11-13, the Ipswich Turf Club will host the Ipswich Cup on June 19 while V8 Supercars are featured during the 6th round of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship series at Queensland Raceway on July 2-4.
